Wisconsin GI Bill: Budget Signed

The governor's budget was signed into law today at 11am. We will work as quickly as possible to provide details and a "frequently asked questions" document to help students and staff understand the changes to the WI GI Bill. The changes will have the most impact on veterans who are eligible both for Chapter 30 (or 1606, 1607) AND the new federal Post-9/11 GI Bill. Veterans who have no active duty service since September 10, 2001 will be only minimally impacted. Please continue to check back here for details.

Wisconsin GI Bill: Budget Amendments

Beginning the week of June 10th, there were several amendments to the budget bill regarding the WI GI Bill. Late last week and earlier this week, the Assembly and the Senate passed significantly different versions of the budget bill, so the two versions now go to conference committee where members of the two houses will work to develop language they can agree upon. The agreed upon budget bill then goes to both the Assembly and the Senate for a vote. After it passes both houses it then goes to the Governor for his signature and becomes law. When final we will post details here on any changes that are made to the WI GI bill.

Wisconsin GI Bill: Proposed Changes

The governor has proposed that eligible student veterans be required to use federal Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) benefits before receiving Wisconsin GI Bill benefits. Even if you are not eligible for the federal Post-9/11 GI Bill, you may be required to submit additional documentation to your school veterans’ certifying official in order to continue to use the Wisconsin GI Bill.
